Niagara Falls mayor, Howard Milstein clash over future park

Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino has a vision for growing Cataract City’s tourism, while keeping visitors in town longer.

Creating a $150 million “gateway” park downtown that includes an ice rink, indoor arena and outdoor amphitheater.

However, the city doesn’t own the 12 acres of land it is eyeing for its proposed Centennial Park.

Howard Milstein’s Niagara Falls owns the lot and isn’t interested in selling it, even though Restaino says it was an NFR executive who first suggested the location a year ago.

Instead, NFR, which has done little to bring new business or attractions to a prime downtown site that it has controlled for 25 years, has a very different idea. The firm is now is pitching a plan to put a data and technology center on a portion of its property and potentially bring hundreds of jobs to the site.

Broadway’s Tony Nominated ‘For Colored Girls…’ Announces Extension to June 5

Three weeks are left to experience one of the best reviewed plays of 2022, the critically acclaimed and reimagined Broadway revival of Ntozake Shange’s groundbreaking for colored girls who have considered suicide/ when the rainbow is enuf, directed and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown (Once On This Island, Choir Boy, co-director and choreographer of Fire Shut Up in My Bones). The production will play its final performance on Sunday, May 22 at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45^th Street).

for colored girls… is Camille A. Brown’s directorial debut on Broadway. She is the first Black woman to serve as both director and choreographer on Broadway in more than 65 years, bringing a reinvented, joyful and celebratory production of Shange’s seminal work back to its original home at the Booth Theatre, where the play premiered in 1976.

for colored girls… has received three Drama League Award nominations including Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Direction of a Play – Camille A. Brown and Distinguished Performance Award – Kenita R. Miller. The production has also received three Outer Critics Circle Award nominations including Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Director of a Play – Camille A. Brown and Outstanding Choreography – Camille A. Brown.

“From African influence to HBCU stepping, Brown’s choreography is a forensic amalgamation of styles that shows all forms of Black dance should be considered tribal in origin,” described Matthew Allen of The Grio.

“Brown’s staging is so attuned to the words and cadences of Shange’s choreopoem, yet so confident in its own interpretive vision, that the characters blossom into their full vibrancy,” praised Laura Collins-Hughes of The New York Times.

“We are so proud to have brought Ntozake Shange’s brilliant choreopoem back to Broadway after 46 years from its original premiere and to have had the opportunity to share Camille’s vision and masterful work with a sensational ensemble of women on stage at the Booth Theatre each night,” said producers Nelle Nugent, Ron Simons and Kenneth Teaton. “As Broadway continues to rebound, we knew it would be challenging and our goal remains to present these voices and introduce a new generation of audiences to the power of theatre and the power of Shange’s words.”

The cast stars Amara Granderson as Lady in Orange, Tendayi Kuumba as Lady in Brown, Kenita R. Miller as Lady in Red, Okwui Okpokwasili as Lady in Green, Stacey Sargeant as Lady in Blue, Alexandria Wailes as Lady in Purple, and D. Woods as Lady in Yellow. Rachel Christopher, Treshelle Edmond, McKenzie Frye, Kala Ross and Alexis Sims join the company as standbys and understudies.

Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company Announces The Bridge Virtual Dance Institute of Boundary-Breaking Dance Experiences

Free One-Hour Company Classes on Zoom Open to All Dancers at an Intermediate to Advanced Level May 9 & 11, 2022

New York – In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company has established a new dance institute through Zoom, The Bridge.

The Institute’s aim is to bring together dancers, choreographers and directors around the world to experience the master teachers of color whose practices are embedded in the community and are focused on advancing the art of dance that transform the personal, environmental and metaphysical spaces. Interested dancers can join the class by registering here.

As a virtual dance institute, The Bridge will invite world renowned as well as up and coming dancers and choreographers to come to guest teach the class. Advanced/Intermediate level professional or pre-professional dancers who are looking to explore beyond their own boundaries and looking for new dance experiences are encouraged to participate.

The core program is based on Nai-Ni Chen’s Kinetic Spiral, which is a cross-cultural dance vocabulary that integrates the Chinese martial arts philosophy in TaiChi with contemporary dance practices she studied in America. Guest artists will cover a wide range of folk and classical dance styles.

Coming off of a sold out 42-date arena tour in 2021 and two special One Night Only shows in New York and London, the highly anticipated 2022 tour will allow fans to have access to multiple nights in each major city turning iconic venues into Harry’s House for the run of shows.

Produced by Live Nation, the tour will include a massive 32 nights at many of North America’s most notable venues, kicking off on Monday, August 15th and Tuesday, August 16th at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON.

An Alluring Evening of Variety & Burlesque is an extravaganza combining enticing aerial acrobatics, cabaret, fire-spitting vixens, magicians and more.
