Rosie O’Grady’s, Manhattan’s famed pub and steakhouse, will close July 1

 

Rosie O’Grady’s, a popular Midtown Manhattan Irish bar and steakhouse for more than 40 years, will be closing its doors for good in early July 2023.

Located on the corner of West 52nd Street and Seventh Avenue, the restaurant / event space will permanently shut down on Saturday, July 1, according to Owner Mike Carty, who posted a message on the restaurant’s website.

 

“It is with a mixture of emotions that we announce the closure of our cherished location…after more than 40 wonderful years,”

who immigrated from Ireland in the early 1960s. 

 

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to all who supported Rosie O’Grady’s Steakhouse and our event space…and would so enjoy seeing you for one last pint.”

 

Carty’s message, however, made clear that he plans to re-open the establishment elsewhere.

 

“Amidst the bittersweet goodbye, we want to convey our unwavering commitment to relocating our restaurant and event space to a nearby location,” Carty wrote. 

 

“Rest assured, our new venue will capture the essence and sprit you have come to love.”

 

The restaurant and the building’s landlord, SL Green, continues to be involved in a rent dispute that went to arbitration, according to the Irish Voice newspaper that was first to report that the establishment will be closing. An arbitration panel ruled in SL Green’s favor.

 

Many jobs will be lost with this closure, as more than 90 employees will be let go.

VOLCANICA COFFEE’S IRISH ESPRESSO MARTINI RECIPE 

1.5 oz of Irish Whiskey

½ oz of coffee liqueur

½ oz of Bailey’s Irish Cream

2 oz of cooled espresso using Volcanica Coffee’s Café Cubano Miami Espresso Blend

  1. In a shaker glass, pour in your ingredients. Fill with ice and shake until shaker is frosty.
  2. Strain into martini glass.

VOLCANICA COFFEE’S IRISH COFFEE RECIPE 

1½ to 2 oz (45 to 60ml) Irish whiskey, to taste

4 oz (120ml) fresh-brewed Dark Roast Costa Rica Nespresso Coffee Pods

1 tablespoon brown sugar

2 oz (60ml) heavy cream, very cold

Unsweetened cocoa powder, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Fill the cups with hot water to warm them up.
  2. Whip the cold cream until thick, but not stiff; it should still be able to run off of a spoon. Set aside. Tip: The key to success for whipped cream is to keep it very cold, so put your whisk and a stainless steel bowl in the freezer for 10 minutes before.
  3. Pour the warm water out of the coffee mugs. Fill ¾ full with coffee, add the brown sugar and stir well until dissolved. Add a few drops of coffee into the whipped cream and stir to combine.
  4. Add the whiskey into coffee and stir to combine.
  1. Hold a spoon upside down over the coffee, the tip touching the glass edge and the surface of coffee. Gently pour the cream over the back of the spoon, allowing it to gently pool on top of the coffee; filling to the top of the mug. Do not stir. You should obtain a lovely layering that looks like a pint of Guiness!
  2. Using a stenciled shamrock, sprinkle cocoa powder over the cream to make a beautiful drawing.

Preview performances of Lolita Chakrabarti’s dazzling stage adaption of Yann Martel’s best-selling novel LIFE OF PI begin Thursday, March 9, at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street).

The digital lottery opens at 12am (ET) at rush.telecharge.com one day before the performance with winners announced that same morning at 10am (ET), with a second announcement of additional winners that afternoon at 3pm (ET). Winners may buy up to two tickets at $45 each (inclusive of $5 service fee), subject to availability.

A limited number of in-person LIFE OF PI rush tickets will be available on the day of each performance for $40 per ticket when the Schoenfeld Theatre box office opens. Maximum of two tickets per person, subject to availability. The box office opens Tuesday through Saturday at 10am (ET) and Sunday at 12pm (ET).

It’s The Red Hot Chilli PIPERS – (NOT the Peppers!) – a 9-piece ensemble consisting of pipers, guitarists, keyboards, and drummers — who have been rocking the world from New York to Beijing to Melbourne and everywhere in between with musicianship of the highest order and a passion for pipes that will leave you breathless. The band has four music degrees from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and all the pipers and drummers have played at the top level in bagpiping.

Since they walked away with the top prize on the primetime TV talent show, “When Will I Be Famous” in the U.K. in 2007, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers haven’t stopped for a breath, other than to inflate their bagpipes! Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has shared the lineup for this year’s edition of the internationally acclaimed camping festival, taking place June 15-18, 2023 on the Bonnaroo Farm, located just 60 miles southeast of Nashville in Manchester, TN.

Bonnaroo 2023 will once again present a wide-ranging bill featuring a spectacular selection of top artists performing around the clock across more than 10 unique stages over the four-day festival, with live music and much more through the night and into early morning with special sunrise sets.

Highlights will include performances from:

Emmy-nominated writer, director, producer and standup comedian Neal Brennan announced his upcoming BRAND NEW NEAL Limited Tour. Produced by Live Nation, the 4-city tour kicks off Saturday, May 20th in San Diego, CA at The Observatory North Park and continues on through Philadelphia and New York before wrapping up on Friday, August 18th at Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, MN. The tour follows the release of his Netflix comedy special Neal Brennan: Blocks, which hits the streaming platform tomorrow, Tuesday, November 8th.

About Neal Brennan

Three-time Emmy nominated writer, director, producer, and standup comedian Neal Brennan has become a force in the comedy world. An across-the-board talent, Neal has found success in almost every creative vein in the comedy community. His latest Netflix comedy special Neal Brennan: Blockspremieres globally on November 8.

Neal Brennan: Blocks was adapted from Neal’s hit one-man show Unacceptable. Beloved Magician/Artist Derek Delgaudio (HULU’s In & Of Itself) directed both the Netflix special and the theatre run. The stage show had a sold-out NYC residency in the Fall of 2021, with Interview Magazine lauding “together, Brennan and DelGaudio have crafted a genre-bending show focused as much on fun and laughter as it is on intimacy and honesty” and Theatermania gushing “The comedians Neal Brennan has written for is insane….Even more insane (in the best way), is the material Brennan writes for himself.”

Neal’s critically acclaimed first off-Broadway one-man show 3 Mics also enjoyed a sold-out NYC run in 2016 with superstar musician John Legend serving as Executive Producer. 3 Mics was taped as a stand-up special, which premiered on Netflix in 2017, with Paste Magazine offering “It will floor you in the best way possible.”

As in-demand behind the camera as he is in front of it, Neal was recently a writer, creative consultant, and on-air correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. He is a longtime collaborator of iconic comedian Dave Chappelle, with whom he has created multiple comedy fan favorites including the legendary Chappelle’s Show and the Emmy-winning Saturday Night Live episode immediately following the 2016 presidential election. Neal served as Executive Producer on Chris Rock’s recent standup special Chris Rock: Tamborine and as Director on fellow Daily Show Correspondent Michelle Wolf’s HBO special Michelle Wolf: Nice Lady. He has helped create and performed in numerous TV series and films, developing what The New York Times calls his “hip-hop and Frontline aesthetic.” He regularly headlines the good standup venues in the good parts of America.
