The Secret To The Best New York Thanksgiving is (…) This Flavor

Donnachiara Winery’s Ilaria Petitto brought Thanksgiving early to one of Manhattan’s top Italian restaurants Il Gattopardo.

Hosted by the always amazing certified Italian Wine Ambassador with a Diploma in Wines & Spirits,  Susannah Gold, we tasted through 6 wines (4 white, 2 red) paired with 4 courses aiming for a Thanksgiving to remember.

The secondo was very Thanksgiving – influenced (and spoiler alert:  the wine that Donnachiara chose was absolutely perfect.)

The special secret to Donnachiara Winery’s roster in my humble opinion is incredible Old World quality with truly remarkable present day pricing.

Donnachiara Winery is Old World with Modern Twist

Before we ate, Ilaria introduced her family’s history and explained how the new generation (her generation) is leading the Montefalcione wine revolution, with her mother’s blessing.

In the same spirit, Ilaria proudly announced that she is now the Vice President of the Conosrzio di Tutela dei Vini dell’Irpinia.

Ilaria continued, sharing their winery is located in Montefalcione, in the Irpinia area near Avellino. While the vineyards have been in the family for over 150 years, the modern winery was completed in 2005.  Ilaria’s mother, Chiara Petitto, is a vocal supporter of her work in the winery.

The Donnachiara Winery stands high on the hills of Montefalcione.

Montefalcione is nestled in the Central West of Italy, near Montevergine and Chiusano – just over two hours south of Rome and about an hour East of Naples.

The winery’s philosophy is to preserve the traditional grape varieties of the local territory and keep the typical character of the wines from being lost to standardization, like many of the wines on the market today.

Hamptons: Richard Marx brings his The Songwriter Tour to Patchogue Theatre Nov 12

Richard Marx brings his The Songwriter Tour to Patchogue Theatre in The Hamptons on November 12

2022 marks Richard Marx’s thirty-fifth year as a recording artist, and his thirty-eighth as a professional songwriter. 1984’s “What About Me,” released as a trio by Kenny Rogers, Kim Carnes and James Ingram was co-written by Richard and became not only his first song recorded by an artist, but his first number one as a writer. On September 30th, Marx will release his unique and ambitious new album, simply and appropriately titled Songwriter.

Songwriter contains twenty tracks crossing four different musical genres. Five pop songs, five rock songs, five country songs and five beautiful ballads.

“I’ve had such an amazing opportunity in my songwriting career

to write all kinds of songs with, and for, all kinds of artists,”

says Richard.

“It finally occurred to me that there was no reason not to record an album of my own that touches on multiple genres I love.”

Tix and more info here: https://ci.ovationtix.com/34780/production/1136616?performanceId=11147411

While he included a few existing songs that were written in the recent past, the bulk of Songwriter was created over the past year. “For instance,” Richard says, “I wrote a modern rock song a few years back called “Just Go” that I really love but I didn’t feel it fit the vibe of my last two albums. The band and I played it live a few times and people seemed to really love it, so I’m happy to finally get it out there.”
While several of the songs on Songwriter were composed by Richard alone (as on all of his previous albums) collaborations make up the majority of the tracks, including some co-written with various music superstars.
• “One Day Longer” was written by Richard and his longtime friend, Keith Urban, who has taken previous collaborations by the two (“Better Life” and “Long Hot Summer”) straight to the top of the country charts.
• “Breaking My Heart” was co-written with Darius Rucker and former Evanescence founder, David Hodges.
• “My Love, My Enemy” is a gem of a rock song written by Richard and another longtime friend and collaborator, Vertical Horizon’s Matt Scannell.
• “One More Yesterday” was composed with Chris Daughtry and Lifehouse’s Jason Wade.
• And a new ballad, “Always” is the creation of Richard and one of his lifelong heroes, the legendary Burt Bacharach.
“The experience of sitting in a room and writing a song with Burt is something I consider one of the greatest thrills of my life. That we wrote a song we’re both so deeply proud of and in love with makes me all that much more grateful. Plus, we’ve become really good pals. Burt is ninety-four and all he wants to do is write more great songs. He’s such an inspiration.”
Additionally, Richard collaborated with two of his sons, both singer-songwriter-producers in their own right. “Shame On You” and “We Are Not Alone” were written with Jesse Marx (whose debut EP under the band name Mark This Hour was recently released) and Lucas Marx co-wrote and produced three songs, including the album’s first single, “Same Heartbreak Different Day”. Songwriter is another chapter in not only a long and illustrious career, but the latest project in a recent flurry of creative endeavors. In February 2020, Richard released Limitless, an album which spawned a top 15 single and hit #2 on the iTunes pop albums chart. In 2021, Richard’s memoir, Stories to Tell became a national bestseller and its soundtrack went top ten. The paperback edition of Stories to Tell was released in July, 2022.
Richard Marx has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, starting with his self-titled debut which went to No. 8 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The album spawned four Top 5 singles, including “Hold on to the Nights” and “Don’t Mean Nothing,” which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. His follow-up, 1989’s Repeat Offender, was even more successful, hitting No. 1 and going quadruple-platinum with two No. 1 singles, “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting.” He has since made history as the only male artist whose first seven singles reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Charts.
Richard has also written on a No. 1 single in each of the last four decades, an accolade previously only reached by Michael Jackson. He has written with and for numerous artists, including Barbra Streisand, Keith Urban, Kenny Rogers, Celine Dion, Chicago, Natalie Cole, Kenny Loggins, Vince Gill, Daughtry, The Tubes, Martina McBride, Lifehouse, NSYNC, Michael Bolton, Vixen, and Josh Groban, He also went on to earn a 2004 Song of the Year Grammy for co-authoring Luther Vandross’ “Dance with My Father.” Overall, he has scored 14 No. 1 singles both as a performer and as a songwriter/producer, revealing him a true multi talented performer who continues to challenge himself and his fans.
In addition to being a musician, Richard is a committed philanthropist, supporting charitable causes like the American Cancer Society and the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Mercy For Animals, ASPCA, Humane Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the charity closest to Richard’s heart, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, for which his produced events have raised over $4 million for research. The musician has toured extensively for the past three decades, building a strong fanbase all over the world that only continues to grow. The legacy of his career as a songwriter, singer and musician and now author is now well established and Richard is happy to continue on his trajectory, wherever it takes him.
“Every year that I get to continue writing songs, making records and doing concerts all over the world, I become more grateful. We musicians are the only occupation I can think of, other than athletes, who have the incredibly good fortune to use the word “play” for what we do. The “Songwriter” album is a longtime dream of mine finally realized, and I still have a bunch of cards up my sleeve.”

Jerry Brown: The Disrupter Screens at DOC NYC Nov 13-14

Jerry Brown: The Disrupter, directed by Marina Zenovich screens at DOC NYC Nov 13-14

JERRY BROWN: THE DISRUPTER is a candid and emotionally compelling portrait of Jerry Brown, two-time, four-term Governor of California.

Jerry Brown is a man ahead of his time.

Jerry Brown is a man ahead of his time. A natural disrupter, Jerry kickstarted the national debate about climate change and spiraling inequality back in the 1970s.

A three-time presidential candidate – who created the blueprint for today’s grassroots campaigns – Jerry Brown also achieved the remarkable feat of twice being elected Governor of California: at the very different ages of 36 and 72.

For over five decades Brown has proven his willingness to sacrifice everything – even getting elected – for the causes to which he’s devoted.

Filmmaker Marina Zenovich:

I don’t set out to make films about complicated men but complicated men are among the most compelling subjects to me. I love exploring their motives and choices. And Jerry is one of those.

I always wanted to make a film about Jerry Brown but zeroed in on the idea when he ran for Governor in 2010—the idea being what if you were lucky enough to have the same job at 72 that you have at 36?

That’s what interested me.

And that evolved into this. Jerry Brown has always fascinated me.He is an idealist, he’s an original thinker and he wants to make change. He was a disrupter before people knew what that word even meant.

Did he get everything right?  No. Did he try his best? Yes.

I think he will be looked back at as someone who should have been President.

Marina Zenovich is a critically acclaimed two-time Primetime Emmy award-winning filmmaker. Her films have been praised for their powerful storytelling and their thoughtful, sensitive approach to difficult subjects and controversial people. Marina’s recent films include LANCE(ESPN Films/Hulu), a psychological portrait of cyclist Lance Armstrong;Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind(HBO),Water and Power: A California Heist(National Geographic), and Fantastic Lies(ESPN)—about the Duke Lacrosse scandal.

Meteoric rise of designers John Galliano, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford

Packed with drama and intrigue, expect haute couture, supermodels and iconic fashion moments in this electrifying story of how fashion took over the world.

The four legendary Kingdoms of the fashion world –

Paris – birthplace of haute couture, home to mythical Houses like Christian Dior and Givenchy. Milan – byword for jet-set glamour. London – capital of subversive street style. And New York – synonymous with luxurious living and commercial hustle…

…By the 1980s, these citadels have languished and fallen into decline. No longer relevant in a world on the brink of globalisation, the Houses and brands of the Four Kingdoms have lost their lustre and their power to enchant.

Bernard Arnault

But a young, unknown French entrepreneur doesn’t hesitate to take advantage of their vulnerability. His name is Bernard Arnault and his ambition is to conquer the Houses and the Kingdoms, forging a global empire that will hold the entire world in its thrall – and make him the wealthiest man on the planet.

Arnault, quintessential disruptor and master of the hostile takeover, soon becomes known as the Sultan of Chic – and the Wolf in Cashmere.

François Pinault

His extraordinary success inspires a ruthless rival, François Pinault, to enter the fray and carve out his own empire in this deluxe world. Anna Wintour, sorceress of style, and tycoon whisperer – seeks to build her own empire at Vogue, mediating between the worlds of corporate power, celebrity and creative wizardry.

Anna Wintour

A brilliant, subversive quartet of young designers will prove indispensable to Arnault and Pinault in their quest for dominion. John Galliano, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford agree to lend their genius to these 21st century titans. It is a Faustian Pact that will give them unimaginable fame and wealth – but at a deadly price.

For there is a dark, troubling underbelly to this world of seductive beauty and thrilling glamour.

Mike Birbiglia: The Old Man & the Pool

Tickets to Mike Birbiglia: The Old Man & the Pool are on sale now at Telecharge.com/212-239-6200.

One of the greatest comedic storytellers, at the top of his game. Following his award-winning show The New One, Mike Birbiglia has returned to Broadway with a coming-of-middle-age story about when life takes a dive – into a highly-chlorinated YMCA pool.

Propelled by his singular, insightful voice and everyman style, Mike Birbiglia: The Old Man & the Pool is a wildly hilarious and deeply moving play that offers “a galvanic, endearing and very funny meditation on mortality – deftly using comedy to demonstrate that when you stop thrashing around and exist in the moment – you float.” (Chicago Sun-Times).

Following sold-out runs in Los Angeles and Chicago, The Old Man & the Pool began Broadway previews on Friday, October 28, 2022, and will celebrate its official Opening Night on Sunday, November 13. The play is directed by Seth Barrish (The New One), with contributions by Peabody Award-winning Story Consultant Ira Glass (This American Life).

“In my 22 years of performing comedy, and five solo shows,

The Old Man & the Pool has given me the most rewarding experience I’ve ever felt with audiences,”

said Mike Birbiglia

upon the announcement of the show’s Broadway premiere. “This is a show I’m very proud of, and I can’t believe I get to perform it at Lincoln Center – after auditioning for the Philharmonic, the Opera, and the New York City ballet, I thought I’d never get the chance. But here I am. Sometimes you get lucky!”

Birbiglia continued, “It’s always been a cliché that audiences need to laugh but— honestly— after all we’ve been through in the last few years, people really do need to laugh. And sometimes, laughing about the darkest topics can be the most cathartic. I hope you join me. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll call your parents. You’ll write your will.”

Mike Birbiglia: The Old Man and the Pool was Originally Produced by Center Theatre Group and played to sold-out houses in its world premiere at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, CA in 2022, following a sold-out developmental run at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. Entertainment Weekly raved, “The artful storyteller Mike Birbiglia is excellent at his craft, and in The Old Man & the Pool, the comedian is at the top of his game. I felt connected to him. Hilarious observations unfold into tales that are charming and gripping. You never feel like he’s performing a bit, but rather like you’re throwing back a beer with your funniest friend.” Variety wrote, “The core of Mike Birbiglia’s charm is… he’s favorite-pair-of-jeans comfortable, and remarkably skilled at finding profundity in subjects well within arm’s reach. The Old Man & the Pool feels like catching up with an old friend – you never want him to shut up.”

Marking Birbiglia’s fifth solo play collaboration with director Seth Barrish, the play’s creative team also includes Tony Award-winning Scenic Designer Beowulf Boritt (Act One, POTUS), four-time Tony Award Nominated Costume Designer Toni-Leslie James (Paradise Square, The Piano Lesson), Lighting Designer Aaron Copp (The New One, Falling Out of Time), Tony Award-winning Sound Designer Kai Harada (The Band’s Visit, Kimberly Akimbo), and Projection Designer Hana S. Kim (The Visitor, Eve’s Song).
