Warhol-Basquiat Play ‘The Collaboration’ Sets Winter Broadway Opening; with Paul Bettany & Jeremy Pope Starring

Warhol-Basquiat Play ‘The Collaboration’ Sets Winter Broadway Opening; with Paul Bettany & Jeremy Pope Starring

The Collaboration, Anthony McCarten’s hit London play about artists Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, will make its American premiere on Broadway this winter, with Paul Bettany and Jeremy Pope as the two painters.

The Manhattan Theatre Club production will begin previews at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Tuesday, November 29, with an opening night set for Tuesday, December 20. Kwame Kwei-Armah directs.

The production will be the second Broadway production of MTC’s 2022-2023 season, following the fall premiere of Martyna Majok’s Cost of Living.

The Collaboration, which made its world premiere in a critically acclaimed production by London’s Young Vic Theatre in January, is set in the summer of 1984, when longtime superstar Warhol and wunderkind Basquiat agreed to work together on what would become one of the most famous exhibitions in the modern art history. As the official synopsis puts it, “But can these two creative giants co-exist, or even thrive?”

Bettany (The Avengers, WandaVision) and Pope (Broadway’s Choir Boy and Ain’t Too Proud) reprise their roles from the London staging.

The announcement was made today by Manhattan Theatre Club, Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) and the Young Vic Theatre, Kwame Kwei-Armah (Artistic Director) and Lucy Davies (Executive Director) by special arrangement with Eleanor Lloyd Productions, Anthology Theatre, Stanley Buchthal, and Denis O’Sullivan

Additional cast members and the creative team for The Collaboration will be announced at a later date. Two additional productions for MTC’s 2022-2023 season, including one at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Broadway and one at MTC at New York City Center – Stage I, will be announced soon.

‘Almost Famous’ Musical Sets New Broadway Opening Date, Lands Venue

‘Almost Famous’ Musical Sets New Broadway Opening Date, Lands Venue

Almost Famous, the stage musical based on Cameron Crowe’s 2000 film, will begin previews at Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Oct. 3, ahead of a Nov. 3 opening night.

The new dates fall a few weeks after those originally announced last month before Almost Famous had landed the venue: The Jacobs currently houses the musical revival of Company, which recently posted a July 31 closing notice.

The Broadway cast will be headed by Chris Wood, Anika Larsen, Solea Pfeiffer, Drew Gehling, Rob Colletti and Casey Likes.

Directed by Jeremy Herrin, with choreography by Sarah O’Gleby, the musical includes a book and lyrics by Crowe, with original music and lyrics by Tom Kitt.

Set in 1973, Almost Famous follows 15-year-old William Miller (Likes), an aspiring music journalist hired by Rolling Stone magazine to go on the road with an up-and-coming band. The official synopsis: “William is thrust into the rock-and-roll circus, where his love of music, his longing for friendship, and his integrity as a writer collide. Almost Famous is about a young man finding his place in the world and the indelible characters he meets along the way. It’s a celebration of community, family, fandom and the power of music.”

The venue and opening date announcement made by producers Lia Vollack and Michael Cassel.

Hits include “Vienna,” “Dancing With Tears in My Eyes,” “If I Was,” “Dear God Why,” and “Do They Know It’s Christmas.”
It was in 1983 that Howard Jones first burst upon the contemporary music scene with his very English songwriting, pioneering synthesizers and thought provoking lyrics. He set out his manifesto in his very first single “New Song.” The lyrics called on the listener to challenge their preconceived ideas, to see both sides and “throw off your mental chains.” “New Song” was recently used in a pivotal scene in Breaking Bad where Aaron Paul’s character Jessie Pinkman questions if he wants to “play by the rules.” “New Song” peaked at number 3 in the UK singles charts.
Along with “New Song,” the first two albums, Humans Lib and Dream into Action, brought Howard a host of hits including “Things Can Only Get Better,” “What is Love,” “Pearl In The Shell,” “Like to Get To know You Well,” “Hide And Seek” (performed at Live Aid), “Look Mama” and “No One Is To Blame,” which reached No.1 in the US. Howard has sold over 8 million albums across the globe and is one of a select group of British artists who have comprehensively ‘broken America’.
Howard’s Synthesizer driven debut influenced a new generation of electronic and dance musicians. Widely regarded as a pioneer of synths such as the Roland Juno 60, Jupiter 8 and Moog Prodigy he has worked with contemporary electronic artists such as Ferry Corsten, Eric Prydz and most recently Cedric Gervais. Howard enjoyed 14 weeks in the billboard dance chart top 40 in 2013 with his collaboration with Cedric on a new version of “Things Can Only Get Better.” Howard continues to operate at the forefront of music technology in both his live shows and productions.
Joining Howard Jones is one of the key members of the new wave band Ultravox, guitarist/vocalist Midge Ure.

Niagara Falls mayor, Howard Milstein clash over future park

Niagara Falls mayor, Howard Milstein clash over future park

Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino has a vision for growing Cataract City’s tourism, while keeping visitors in town longer.

Creating a $150 million “gateway” park downtown that includes an ice rink, indoor arena and outdoor amphitheater.

However, the city doesn’t own the 12 acres of land it is eyeing for its proposed Centennial Park.

Howard Milstein’s Niagara Falls owns the lot and isn’t interested in selling it, even though Restaino says it was an NFR executive who first suggested the location a year ago.

Instead, NFR, which has done little to bring new business or attractions to a prime downtown site that it has controlled for 25 years, has a very different idea. The firm is now is pitching a plan to put a data and technology center on a portion of its property and potentially bring hundreds of jobs to the site.

“We firmly believe that eminent domain proceedings are not needed, and we oppose such actions as highly premature,”

NFR Executive Vice President Roger Trevino

“Eminent domain can take years and cost taxpayers millions. It would be completely unnecessary in the face of the opportunities we have been discussing.”

Knox & Dobson’s new bottled cocktail collection was meticulously curated with an uncompromising commitment to excellence in quality, craftsmanship, and taste by Knox & Dobson President Rob Levy and Creative Director Peter Lloyd Jones (The Raymond 1886, Everson Royce Bar) who heads Knox & Dobson’s formulation and product development.

Knox & Dobson Ready-To-Drink Bottled Cocktails

Featuring a gin Martini, classic Old Fashioned, Improved Whiskey Cocktail with Maraska Maraschino Liqueur, and Rye Manhattan, Knox & Dobson uses the highest quality ingredients including hand-selected barrel aged whiskey, distilled gin, natural cane sugar, and authentic Angostura Bitters.

From the award-winning design of the bottle, these superior bottled cocktails were solely created so expertly handcrafted cocktails could be shared and effortlessly enjoyed anywhere.

“Our mission was to create a collection of cocktails that were equal in taste and quality to those freshly crafted by a skilled bartender. Peter Lloyd Jones was the best choice, and I can’t imagine working with anyone better, “

says Levy.

Pete was Head Barman at 1886 Bar at The Raymond and he was also behind the stick at Everson Royce Bar for several years, so his experience is invaluable, and his passion and creativity make him the perfect partner at Knox & Dobson.”

Levy’s upbringing in Skokie, Illinois, at Knox Avenue and Dobson Street is where Levy spent most of his adolescence in the ‘60s and 70’s hanging out “on the corner” with neighborhood kids who remain lifelong friends.

Knox & Dobson is as much an elevated on-the-go craft beverage experience as it is a distillation of hometown pride and a love of bringing people together.

Each Knox & Dobson bottled cocktail is 200 milliliters and features two servings. Whether you are a classic Martini drinker (34% ABV), this is a take on the classic combining gin with dry vermouth to create a flavor profile of an aromatic gin martini that is slightly earthy and refreshing to drink. Lloyd Jones recommends serving this cocktail up or over ice, garnished with olives.

Old Fashioned aficionados (38% ABV) can savor this cocktail which consists of straight aged bourbon, natural cane sugar, orange oil and Angostura Bitters with tastes of aged bourbon with bright citrus flavors, bitters, raw cinnamon, clove, and American oak.

The Improved Whiskey Cocktail (35.42% ABV) – made with straight aged rye whiskey, Maraska Maraschino Liqueur and Angostura bitters – has a spiced flavor profile combined with American oak, citrus, along with bright and deep cherry notes.

This is a whiskey cocktail that is meant to be sipped and savored.

Finally, the Rye Manhattan (36% ABV) is made with straight aged rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters. The tantalizing pairing of the aged whiskey combined with the aromatic Italian-style vermouth creates a spice, citrus and charred oakwood profile that will have anyone asking for another round.

To celebrate the $6.69 million reconstruction of Prospect Playground in the Bronx, renovated through the Community Parks Initiative (CPI).

“We are thrilled to cut the ribbon on the $6.69 million Prospect Playground project,

which has been completely reimagined and reconstructed with equity and fun at its core,”

said Commissioner Donoghue.

“Through the Community Parks Initiative, almost 70 playgrounds that haven’t seen investment in decades have been reconstructed, and we couldn’t be happier to unveil this playground for the enjoyment of the children in this neighborhood.”

“The reconstruction of the Prospect Playground is a huge win for our borough and for increasing access to recreational green space in the Bronx,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson.

“As we enter the summer months, children and families will now get to enjoy the newly renovated basketball courts, volleyball court, play equipment, spray showers, synthetic turf, and safety surfacing while safely recreating in their neighborhood. I want to thank the Mayor`s Office for their support of the Prospect playground, $6.69 million investment in our community, and commitment to reimagining previously-overlooked parks.”

‘Across New York City, COVID-19 highlighted the gaps in parks equity and accessibility in communities of color, including the neighborhoods that I serve in the South Bronx,’ stated Council Member Rafael Salamanca, 17th Council District, The Bronx.

‘Using the power of the budget, I have worked tirelessly to address these inequities, allocating millions of dollars in capital funding to parks in my district, while also working with the administration to advocate for higher-need parks’ projects. Prospect Playground is a perfect example of this partnership.

Through the Community Park Initiative, Prospect Playground received a $6.69 million infusion of funding that will provide future generations of Bronxites with a state-of-the-art park to play in and utilize for relaxation. On behalf of my residents, I thank the Adams Administration and the Department of Parks for their continued commitment to renovating parks in the South Bronx.’

Through CPI, Prospect Playground has been completely redesigned and reconstructed. New basketball courts, a volleyball court, play equipment, spray showers, synthetic turf, and safety surfacing has been added to the playground. Parks also installed new fencing and seating, and reconstructed the sidewalks and drainage, while adding more plantings to the site.

The Prospect Playground Reconstruction project was made possible with $6.69 million from the office of the Mayor through the Community Parks Initiative.

Launched in 2014, the Community Parks Initiative is NYC’s first equity-driven parks initiative. Through CPI nearly $1 billion has been invested to reimagine and rebuild previously-overlooked parks in neighborhoods demonstrating the highest need.
