The New York Comedy Festival returns to #MakeNYLaugh on Nov 7 – 13

Featuring:

Jo Koy, John Mulaney, Bassem Yousef, JB Smoove, Tracy Morgan, Wanda Sykes, Bill Maher and more!

Created in 2004, the New York Comedy Festival is a seven-day festival featuring more than 200 comedians performing in more than 100 shows at venues throughout all five boroughs of New York City.

The festival is produced by Carolines on Broadway.

The Festival runs from Monday, November 7 – Sunday, November 13.

WHERE DOES THE NEW YORK COMEDY FESTIVAL TAKE PLACE?

The New York Comedy Festival takes place at venues including the Beacon Theatre, BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Carolines on Broadway, Hulu Theater at MSG, Madison Square Garden and Town Hall throughout the five boroughs of New York City and at the UBS Arena at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.

WHEN IS THE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS ANNOUNCED?

Dita Von Teese announced that she will be bringing the world’s biggest burlesque show, ‘Glamontrix’ to North America next year.

Produced by Live Nation, the 21-date tour kicks off on January 7th, 2023, in Seattle, WA at the Paramount Theatre, making stops across North America in San Francisco, New Orleans, New York, and more along with a special performance on Valentine’s Day at The Chicago Theatre.

The tour hits three cities in Texas, plus Dita’s home state of Michigan, with a finale show in Riverside, CA at the Fox Performing Arts Center on February 24th.

Dita’s burlesque show continues to break records as the biggest and most lavish burlesque show in history.

Hot on the heels of her 41-show tour overseas in historic theaters, including The London Palladium, Opera Garnier Monte Carlo, Folies Bergère and Vienna’s Burgtheatre, Dita is thrilled to bring the Glamonatrix burlesque revue to cities across the United States and Canada.

NYC Parks Preserve Iconic Washington Square Arch

NYC Parks conservators and seasonal apprentices are spending three weeks preserving the arch.

Washington Square Arch Preservation Work includes:

– surveying the arch to ensure structural stability of all marble masonry, decorative ornament and sculptural stonework,

– gently cleaning the entire monument of biological growth and pollutants,

– conducting masonry repairs and mortar replacement at the parapet,

– stabilizing the sculptures through chemical stone consolidation,

– applying a graffiti barrier to the lower portion of the arch,

– working with BirdMaster to install an improved roof level bird proofing system.

Dating to 1895, the majestic arch designed by architect Stanford White, is an international symbol of New York City and central gathering place for tourists and New Yorkers alike. The arch was restored in 2003, and this preservation work is part of Parks’ ongoing stewardship.

The Washington Square Arch is one of many monuments throughout the five boroughs that will receive care this summer through NYC Parks’ Citywide Monuments Conservation Program (CMCP), now in its 25th year.

CMCP is an award-winning public/private partnership launched in 1997 and supported by individual, corporate, and foundation grants. Program staff and seasonal conservation apprentices have successfully worked to preserve the city’s rich cultural heritage, and provide graduate-level apprentices with professional training through hands-on work on the nation’s leading collection of public art. Audiences know Erin Michele Soto from her work in the miniseries Shirley and Shelly and the TV series Studio City, the smash hit and Emmy – winning drama.

Around the world audiences see stars on red carpets, TV and movie screens; and often never consider the challenges these performers face to live their dreams.

So many people recognize a star’s good looks, their talent, the laughs and tears from the characters they portray. But the audience doesn’t really get to know the person behind that work. Today Erin is sharing a deeper look into her journey.

Recently we had a chance to sit down with Erin Michele Soto and she revealed the brightest and the darkest moments of her story and the excitement yet to come.

Like so many, Erin moved to Southern California with big Hollywood dreams. But she did not become the struggling cliche. She had the talent and good fortune to quickly find work as an actress and as a dancer.

Tragedy on a Celeb-Filled Dance Floor

Erin Michele Soto’s grace on the dance floor quickly brought her attention. She found A-list work immediately in Modern, Ballet, Jazz dance genres. Stars of the stage, small screen and silver screen all demanded her time, attention and help.

Then as her star was rising, suddenly it all crashed down. Literally. One day in the middle of dancing, Erin fell, hit her eye and the trauma from the fall punctured her brain.

The next moments created a chronic ailment that took Erin over a year for her to recover. The glitz and glamour lifestyle was replaced with being bed-ridden and living a small, dark, lonely life.

Hearing Soto reflect back today, there’s still a pain in her eyes and her voice. But a growing strength and courage in her soul.

Was her journey hard? Yes. Painful? Yes. Encouraging? No.

But, Erin wasn’t done yet.

Ironically, her body really thought she was finished. She rarely left the house. She couldn’t socialize with friends. She forgot how to do the smallest tasks constantly, things like closing her house door; she would routinely black out as she walked through her neighborhood.

The things most people find common, this talented star was suddenly struggling to complete.

“No One Can See My Pain”

Even worse, her mind was playing tricks on her.

This normally proud, healthy, optimistic person was suddenly having thoughts of self-harm. It was a dark time. The good news is, she knew better. Luckily, she never acted on those dark, harmful thoughts.

Your Village Supports Your Recovery Journey

To meet Erin is to fall in love with her. Her energy, her spirit, her intelligence, her motivation. Luckily, even in her darkest moments after her trauma, Erin’s community rallied to cheer her on and find ways to help her while she struggled to live daily life. She bravely chose to get professional mental help which also supported her and returned her closer to light and happiness.

She learned to over-power her own thoughts and regain positivity. She now meditates daily and credits that mental strength with her return to courage and creativity.

Back on Set

Just over a year after her life-changing trauma, Erin was itching to get back to performing. The injury focused her true passions in using her voice in acting. Performing, acting, dancing. But she was dealing with a very foreign feeling: insecurity. Could she remember her dialogue? Could her body move as gracefully as it used to? Would she feel as comfortable acting as she did before?

As a performer, Erin had to “learn to walk” again.

Erin was eager to return and try. She chose a small, local theater in SoCal’s modest San Fernando Valley.

Featuring a gin Martini, classic Old Fashioned, Improved Whiskey Cocktail with Maraska Maraschino Liqueur, and Rye Manhattan, Knox & Dobson uses the highest quality ingredients including hand-selected barrel aged whiskey, distilled gin, natural cane sugar, and authentic Angostura Bitters.

Levy’s upbringing in Skokie, Illinois, at Knox Avenue and Dobson Street is where Levy spent most of his adolescence in the ‘60s and 70’s hanging out “on the corner” with neighborhood kids who remain lifelong friends.

Knox & Dobson is as much an elevated on-the-go craft beverage experience as it is a distillation of hometown pride and a love of bringing people together.

Each Knox & Dobson bottled cocktail is 200 milliliters and features two servings. Whether you are a classic Martini drinker (34% ABV), this is a take on the classic combining gin with dry vermouth to create a flavor profile of an aromatic gin martini that is slightly earthy and refreshing to drink. Lloyd Jones recommends serving this cocktail up or over ice, garnished with olives.

Old Fashioned aficionados (38% ABV) can savor this cocktail which consists of straight aged bourbon, natural cane sugar, orange oil and Angostura Bitters with tastes of aged bourbon with bright citrus flavors, bitters, raw cinnamon, clove, and American oak.

The Improved Whiskey Cocktail (35.42% ABV) – made with straight aged rye whiskey, Maraska Maraschino Liqueur and Angostura bitters – has a spiced flavor profile combined with American oak, citrus, along with bright and deep cherry notes.

This is a whiskey cocktail that is meant to be sipped and savored.

Finally, the Rye Manhattan (36% ABV) is made with straight aged rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters. The tantalizing pairing of the aged whiskey combined with the aromatic Italian-style vermouth creates a spice, citrus and charred oakwood profile that will have anyone asking for another round.

Bryant Park’s Fever Tree Porch Offers a Mid-City East Oasis of Cocktails, Menu and More

Bryant Park’s “Movie Nights” series started on June 13, marking the second year they returned to the Manhattan greenspace for weekly films since the pandemic started.

Anyone looking to catch a free movie and enjoy the surrounding nature this summer can relax on the lawn in Bryant Park and watch the movies, which will feature the 10 traditional screenings but only on Monday nights.

This year marks the 29th season for the series but unlike last year, it will only run on Mondays, with the traditional 10 screenings.

The lawn opens at 5 p.m. for blankets and picnicking, and event organizers recommend visitors be prepared to claim their spot. The films start at 8 p.m.

The historic Oyster Bar at Grand Central Terminal is over 108 years old and was closed for 17 months because of the pandemic.

The Oyster Bar’s executive chef Sandy Ingber continues:

“The vaccine is our lifeline out of the pandemic and the best way to prevent further shutdowns,” said Ingber.

“Our business depends heavily on both tourist commuters and business people and we look forward to having everybody come back to the office so they can come by for a great meal.”

The oldest restaurant in Grand Central, this landmark has one of the largest and freshest seafood menus in the city.

Here, you’ll find 25 types of fish and up to 30 varieties of oysters, along with other seafood specialties, including the world-famous pan roast.

All of this is matched with an award-winning wine list featuring 80 selections by the glass. Open Monday thru Friday for lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended. Come on in. The seafood’s fine.
